What is Ultrasound?

At Toro Park Animal Hospital, we offer ultrasound services to provide a clear, non-invasive way to examine your pet’s internal organs. Ultrasound is a safe and effective diagnostic tool that helps us better understand your pet’s health without the need for surgery.

Ultrasound uses sound waves to create detailed images of your pet’s internal organs, tissues, and structures. It allows us to see areas inside the body that might not be visible through other imaging methods, such as X-rays.

When is Ultrasound Needed?

Our veterinarians may recommend an ultrasound if your pet is showing signs of illness that need further investigation. It’s commonly used to help diagnose:
  • Abdominal pain or bloating
  • Heart conditions
  • Kidney or liver disease
  • Pregnancy in female pets
  • Tumors or growths
  • Fluid accumulation in the body
Ultrasound can also help guide biopsies or fluid samples for further testing.

How Does the Ultrasound Work?

During the ultrasound, your pet will lie on a comfortable table, and a gel will be applied to the area being examined. A small probe is then gently moved over the skin to capture the images. Your pet may need to be slightly sedated if they are anxious or if a thorough examination is required.

Benefits of Ultrasound for Your Pet

  • Non-invasive: No need for surgery, which reduces risks and recovery time.
  • Quick Results: Most ultrasounds allow us to quickly assess your pet’s condition.
  • Accurate Diagnosis: Provides detailed images that help us make more accurate diagnoses.
  • Safe: Ultrasound is safe for pets of all ages and can be used multiple times as needed.
